Don't Forget About Love
This is a little gem I stumbled upon from February 2010 that never went anywhere but the drafts folder. I thought it was time to dust it off.
In my profession I get the opportunity to meet many different people. These people are facing varying physical hardships. These hardships may include anything from a broken leg to fighting cancer. While these people are suddenly caught in these horrible situations, most of them have one thing on their mind and that is their loved ones. Most people don't want to talk about all their doctors visits or how their pain is only getting worse, but they want to tell me all about their husband waiting for them in the lobby. As soon as I ask them what's new in their life, I see something light up in their eyes, and they give me a look that says "someone out there loves me". I hear all about the big bbq they have planned to celebrate their 63rd wedding annivesary, how their wife helps him get dressed in the morning, or when their only son left work to bring them into the ER and sit with them for hours while waiting for test results.
It's the little things that make a lasting impression. When a husband wakes up in the middle of the night to his wife hacking and blowing her nose, he brings her a glass of water and some Nyquil or runs out into the snow to warm up the car for her in the morning. The best friend that will stay on the phone with you for an hour just listening. The sweet little child's voice saying "I wuvooo". I am so grateful to hear the stories of love that people often share with me. It makes me want to try harder to be a better daughter, sister, friend, and partner. Thank you for all the acts of love you've shown me. I will do my very best to pass it on. I love you!
